Dubai: The iconic Dubai Fountain in Dubai Mall will have its final performance on April 19 before temporarily closing for a comprehensive restoration.

The enhancement works will begin in May this year, according master developer Emaar.

It will introduce “advanced technology, improved choreography and an enhanced sound and lighting system to make the experience more immersive”, Emaar has said. The renovation project is expected to be completed by October.

Mohamed Alabbar, Founder of Emaar, said, “Dubai Fountain stands as a reflection of Dubai’s bold vision and its ability to captivate and inspire on a global scale.”

He added, “This restoration underscores our commitment to maintaining its legacy as a beacon of creativity and excellence. We look forward to welcoming guests back to experience the fountain in all its renewed splendour.”

Areas around the Dubai Fountain – including attractions in Downtown Dubai- will remain open to residents and tourists. The fountain, owned and created by Emaar in 2005 and opened in 2009, was designed by Wet Design, which was also behind the famous Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas.

The Dubai Fountain is a major draw for tourists from across the world. Dubai set a new tourism record in 2024, welcoming 18.72 million international visitors—a 9 per cent increase from 2023’s 17.15 million, according to Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism.

The biggest growth came from North East and South East Asia (+24 per cent), followed by Africa (+20 per cent) and CIS & Eastern Europe (+16 per cent). Western Europe remained the top visitor source, growing by 14 per cent.

Dubai’s hotel sector expanded considerably to meet rising demand, with 154,016 rooms across 832 hotels by the end of 2024. New luxury openings, including One&Only One Za’abeel, SIRO One Za’abeel, and The Lana Dorchester Collection, contributed to the city’s hospitality boom.
